Letters of Sylvester Judd [manuscript], 1844-1846.

In a letter, 1844 November 23, Augusta, Maine, Judd informs James Munroe of James Munroe & Co., Boston, that he has sent a manuscript for consideration; [Munroe's] draft reply, n.d., declining to publish it, is on the verso of the address leaf. In another letter, 1846 May 19, to an unidentified man, Judd asks for advice in remedying damage to chimney mortar caused by an airtight stove.

Judd was born in Massachusetts and graduated from Yale College in 1836 and from the Harvard Divinity School in 1840. He became a Unitarian pastor in Augusta, Maine where he served until his death in 1853. Judd was also a novelist, best known for his major work Margaret (1845).
